"Even if it's short for the victim, 5 years feels long for the parents"…A 40s parent of a middle school student sexually assaulted shares their 'plea'
After Sexual Assault, Threatened "If You Report, I'll Harm Your Daughter"
Court: "Extremely Malicious Crime... Severe Punishment Needed"
A middle school student who kidnapped and sexually assaulted a woman in her 40s and fled after stealing cash was found to have attempted to lure a woman from a prostitution establishment to commit another crime. The court sentenced him to 10 years in prison, citing the severity of the crime. The perpetrator's parents lamented that they failed to properly educate their child but complained that the detention period was too long. On the 1st, JTBC reported that A (15) sent a message via a messenger application to a consultant at a prostitution establishment on September 29 last year, five days before sexually assaulting the woman in her 40s, saying, "This is OO Villa, please send someone younger."

When things did not go as planned, he pretended to be an adult living in another area, sent a reservation deposit to the establishment's account in advance, and waited for the woman. However, the woman did not come, and the crime was ultimately not committed. At that time, A had stolen seven motorcycles over a month and had been sent to juvenile protection proceedings in July last year. The prosecution conducted digital forensics on A's mobile phone and found evidence that he planned these crimes, adding charges of attempted robbery and bringing him to trial.
"If you report, I'll harm your daughter" - Threats by A
On the early morning of October 3 last year, A approached B, a woman in her 40s who was leaving work in Nonsan city, offering to give her a ride on his motorcycle. He then took her to an elementary school and sexually assaulted her. A is also charged with filming B's body with his phone during the crime, threatening her by saying, "If you report this, I will harm your daughter," and fleeing after stealing cash.
Mr. A wrote in the letter, "I am very sorry for causing you bad memories," and added, "While you forget those unpleasant memories, I will sincerely reflect on myself." He continued, "Even if I am here now and leave this place after a few years, such things will never happen again."

At the sentencing hearing held on November 22 last year, A's defense pleaded for leniency, saying, "He committed a terrible crime and deserves severe punishment, but he was usually polite and would even cry when scolded by teachers. Please consider his difficult family circumstances." Moreover, A sent a handwritten letter to the victim, B. JTBC released this letter on the 29th of last month.
The letter was reportedly sent by A on November 23 last year while he was incarcerated at Daejeon Prison. In the letter, A wrote, "I am very sorry for causing you bad memories," and "While you forget those bad memories, I will sincerely reflect on my actions." He continued, "Even if I am here now and come out after a few years, such things will never happen again." A also wrote, "I did something a person should never do, and if I do it again after coming out, I would truly not be human. So please do not worry and rest peacefully next time."
Court Sentences A to 10 Years Long-Term, 5 Years Short-Term
Despite A's handwritten letter and plea for leniency, the court's judgment was strict. On December 13, the Criminal Division 1 of the Nonsan Branch of Daejeon District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Hyun-woo) sentenced A to 10 years long-term and 5 years short-term imprisonment, ordered a 5-year ban on employment at child and youth-related institutions and welfare facilities for the disabled, and mandated completion of an 80-hour sexual violence treatment program.

The court stated, "The crime was sadistic and perverted, and the behavior of a 15-year-old boy cannot excuse the extremely bad nature of the crime," adding, "It is obvious that the victim felt extreme fear and sexual discomfort, and recovery seems difficult." The court further noted, "The victim refused the criminal deposit submitted by the defendant's side and is requesting severe punishment. Although the defendant admits all the crimes and shows remorse, strict punishment is necessary."
The victim, B, who witnessed this, reportedly said, "For over two months, there has been no sincere apology from A's family," and "I could not even reveal the situation to my own child, but the rumors spread in the community, causing me to quit my job and be unable to find reemployment." B also expressed a desire for A to receive a harsher punishment and indicated an intention to appeal. The prosecution also appealed, stating, "Considering the bizarre and sadistic nature of the crime, the victim's refusal to accept the criminal deposit, and her plea for severe punishment, the first trial's sentence is light compared to the defendant's guilt," and "The maximum sentence for juveniles, 15 years long-term and 7 years short-term, should be imposed."

A's side also recently appealed, arguing that the sentence was too harsh. Through JTBC, A's parents said, "We never imagined such a thing would happen. It's not that we are not sorry to the victim, but there is nothing we can do. As parents, we failed to raise him properly, so he acted this way," adding, "(My son) has only lived 15 years, and frankly, I won't see or touch him for 5 years. Even if the sentence is short for the victim, those 5 years are tremendously significant to me."
