In his New Year's address, Chairman Choi said, "We will examine the financial management and operational appropriateness of major pension funds to block risk factors that undermine fiscal soundness from a long-term perspective." He emphasized, "We must closely monitor leakages in welfare and education finances such as long-term care insurance, as well as poor management of public institutions, to support ensuring the efficiency of fiscal operations."
Chairman Choi also said, "We need to revive economic vitality through regulatory innovation and proactively prepare for future risks." He called for bold improvements to unnecessary regulations that hinder the growth of new industries and cause inconvenience and burdens to citizens and businesses, while also urging support for proactive measures against potential future risks such as the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the climate crisis.
He mentioned, "We will conduct an in-depth diagnosis of the COVID-19 response process to strengthen the quarantine system, seek ways to supplement public information systems, and improve the system for protecting citizens' rights and interests. To establish basic public service order, we will boldly remove barriers between agencies and strictly punish delays in work, evasion of responsibility, and indiscriminate abuse of authority."
He continued, "We will pay special attention to ensuring that public service discipline does not loosen during transitional periods such as election seasons," adding, "In particular, we will reorganize laws and regulations that cause passive administration to strengthen the foundation for proactive administration."
The Board of Audit and Inspection plans to expand its workforce and reorganize its structure to adapt to the changing audit environment.
