Tremors Felt Inside Buildings in Southern Tokyo
On the 1st, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake occurred in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan.
According to Japan's NHK and the Meteorological Agency, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake struck the Noto region of Ishikawa Prefecture around 4:10 PM on that day.
A tsunami warning was also issued for the northern coastal area of Japan facing the Sea of Japan. NHK reported that a 5-meter-high tsunami had already been detected in Ishikawa Prefecture.
The earthquake caused shaking with a maximum seismic intensity of 7 in Ishikawa Prefecture.
The seismic intensity scale used by the Japan Meteorological Agency is a relative concept that indicates the degree of shaking felt by people or objects in the affected area, unlike magnitude which represents the absolute strength of the earthquake. The intensity scale ranges from 0, where shaking is only recorded by seismographs and not felt by people, to 7, where standing is impossible, divided into 10 levels.
