Went to the cinema with my elementary school daughter and got embarrassed... The 'Munsin Dwaeji' video saying "Departing from Hong Kong? Let's go as far as we can"
Lobby Screening for Everyone
Deleted Late Due to Audience Complaints
A major franchise movie theater faced complaints from viewers and removed a promotional etiquette video containing provocative dialogue.
On the 31st of last month, JIBS Jeju Broadcasting reported on a tip from Mr. A, a man in his 40s who visited a movie theater in Seogwipo City with his elementary school-aged daughter on the 10th of last month.
Mr. A was embarrassed by the theater etiquette promotional video he watched with his daughter. The video featured a conversation between a couple. The man said lines such as “Are you leaving for Hong Kong?” and “Let’s go all the way.”
The man is the main character of the series “Munsin Dwaeji (Mundwae),” created by the YouTube channel ‘Byeolnomdeul.’ Munsin Dwaeji refers to a large man with tattoos and is depicted as a delinquent born in 1999.
When Mr. A’s daughter saw the video and asked, “What is that?” Mr. A’s face turned bright red. He confessed, “The video was repeatedly played in the movie theater lobby, which is used by all age groups, and when my child questioned it, I found it difficult as a parent to explain.”
He added, “It wasn’t shown before a movie rated for viewers aged 18 and over, and it doesn’t seem appropriate for a video to be openly provided without any restrictions,” and criticized, “I don’t understand the purpose of the video.”
The video, which was also posted on YouTube, was played at the theater for about six months and was eventually removed after receiving customer complaints about its unpleasant content.
The theater stated, “After receiving customer complaints, we contacted the production company and took down the advertisement video,” and added, “Since the affiliated companies differ by branch, we are not sure if the same video was played in other theaters.”

Videos played on lobby screens and similar displays at movie theaters are considered outdoor advertisements. However, outdoor advertisements do not undergo prior review procedures, so sanctions are only imposed after issues are raised through post-review processes.
