Gyeongnam Province Operating Emergency System to Prepare for Crowd Accidents during Sunset and Sunrise Events
Measures to Prevent Cold Waves and Heavy Snowfalls in Winter
Gyeongsangnam-do is conducting special safety inspections in preparation for the crowds expected at various local events such as year-end sunset and New Year's sunrise ceremonies, and is operating an emergency response system for winter cold waves and heavy snowfall.
According to Gyeongnam Province on the 31st, year-end and New Year's local events, bell-ringing ceremonies, and sunset and sunrise events are scheduled to be held at 25 locations across 15 cities and counties within the province.
The province announced that from the 28th until today, sample inspections were conducted at 12 large-scale local festivals and year-end and New Year's events expected to attract large crowds, including ▲Changwon New Year's Citizen Wish Prayer Ceremony ▲Jinju New Year's Eve Bell-Ringing Ceremony ▲Tongyeong 2024 Tongyeong Sunrise Event ▲Geoje Jangseungpo Port Year-End Fireworks Festival.
For other sunset and sunrise events, cities and counties will establish safety management plans, conduct preliminary safety inspections, and on the day of the events, cooperate with police and fire departments to prevent safety accidents.
To prevent crowd congestion accidents, measures include ▲implementing crowd dispersion strategies during peak crowd times and at event start and end times ▲promoting traffic management and order maintenance plans at event venues ▲pre-application of anti-slip agents and snow removal on access roads and walkways at event sites to prevent safety accidents ▲controlling access to hazardous areas and deploying safety personnel ▲securing ambulance routes.
Earlier, Governor Park Wan-su instructed the Provincial Safety Headquarters and all relevant departments to “establish safety measures for various year-end and New Year's events such as sunset and sunrise ceremonies to ensure that residents are not inconvenienced and that there are no safety issues,” emphasizing special management.
On this day, Governor Park reiterated, “Please thoroughly manage safety to prevent even a single safety accident at various year-end and New Year's events, and do your best to protect the lives and property of residents.”

He also urged, “Residents should prepare adequate cold-weather gear to protect against the early morning chill when participating in sunrise events, and especially pay close attention to preventing slips and falls on-site.”
