Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Selected as an Excellent Local Government in Resident Participation Budget Evaluation
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, was selected as an excellent local government in the comprehensive award category in the ‘Resident Participation Budget System Evaluation’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, receiving a commendation from the Minister of the Interior and Safety.
They earned the honor of winning for the second consecutive year and secured a special grant of 30 million KRW as a financial benefit.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety selects excellent local governments by dividing them into comprehensive and special award categories, evaluating factors such as the composition and operation of resident participation organizations, the scope, level, and authority of resident participation, support for resident participation activities, potential for development, and outstanding policies and cases to promote the resident participation budget system.
The district was recognized in this evaluation for increasing the substantive participation of residents.
This year, for the first time, the Resident Participation Budget School was operated in a form that directly visits the neighborhoods, attracting about seven times more participation than last year, with 492 participants.
Through this, the number of resident participation budget project proposals increased 2.4 times from last year to 202 cases.
Additionally, the appointment of new members including foreign residents, persons with disabilities, and youth to reflect diverse perspectives and voices during the resident participation budget promotion process was highly praised.
Efforts such as installing illegal parking enforcement signs frequently exposed in citizens’ daily lives, actively promoting through public transportation, and establishing a post-monitoring system to strengthen accountability by inspecting the management status of resident participation budget projects were also highly evaluated.
