A middle-aged American man who won the lottery with both tickets is making headlines for saying he will give one of the tickets to his older brother. He won $100,000 (about 130 million KRW) each on two lottery tickets with the same number, which he purchased due to a mistake by the lottery sales clerk.

According to UPI and local media on the 22nd (local time), the lucky winner is Timothy Emerick, who lives in Garner, a suburb of Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina. Last week, he unexpectedly bought two lottery tickets at the warehouse-style supermarket 'BJ's' where he works and won.
Emerick said, "The sales clerk mistakenly printed two tickets with the same number," and after a moment of hesitation, he decided to buy both tickets.
On the drawing day, the 13th, he confirmed that the number he chose won $100,000. Having two tickets with the same number, Emerick received double the prize money.
He later said, "I will give the prize money from one ticket entirely to my older brother," adding, "I always said that if I ever won the lottery, I would definitely share it with my brother. He deserves the reward."
Emerick also mentioned that he has a close bond with his brother. He said, "Whenever I needed him, my brother was always there," and added, "If my brother had won the lottery, he would have done the same for me."
Emerick, who recently moved to North Carolina to live closer to his brother, said, "I will use my share of the lottery winnings to pay off loans and utility bills."
