Hanwha Ocean Wins Order for 3,000t-Class Diesel Submarine... Contract Amount 1.102 Trillion KRW
Hanwha Ocean announced on the 22nd that it has signed the main contract with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration for the construction project of the Jangbogo III Batch-II 3rd submarine. The contract amount is 1.102 trillion KRW. The submarine built under this project will be delivered to the Navy in December 2031. With this contract, Hanwha Ocean will have constructed all three Jangbogo III Batch-II submarines.
This submarine is evaluated as the most heavily armed and having the longest submerged endurance among existing diesel-powered submarines. Compared to the existing Jangbogo III Batch-I, it has increased length and armaments such as vertical launch tubes. For the first time in the world, an Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) system combined with lithium-ion batteries was implemented. It is also equipped with Submarine-Launched Ballistic Missiles (SLBM).

Hanwha Ocean verified the performance of the Jangbogo III Batch-II submarines through the construction of the 1st and 2nd units, and through the construction of the 3rd unit, it can produce the finalized submarine. Additionally, out of the 24 submarines ordered by the Navy, Hanwha Ocean will build 17 units.
