"Started Management at Age 12"... Gen Z Getting Botox Before Aging Begins
Anti-Aging Hashtag Trend on TikTok
Experts Say "Avoid Botox Until Mid-30s"
Due to the influence of social networking services (SNS), many members of Generation Z are investing time and money in maintaining their youth. In particular, Generation Z has been posting on SNS about their skincare routines, such as applying expensive serums or retinol creams that are said to have anti-aging effects, and even sticking tape on their faces to prevent wrinkles, sharing their opinions. On the 19th (local time), foreign media including the New York Post reported that Generation Z, born in the late 1990s to early 2000s, is already spending time, money, and effort on anti-aging.
The New York Post explained, "On TikTok, where Generation Z users dominate, videos tagged with 'anti-aging' have a total of 7.9 billion views," adding, "Among these, Botox-related videos have 10.2 billion views, and wrinkle-related videos have 2.4 billion views." In fact, it is a trend on TikTok for many Generation Z users to share their anti-aging methods.
A 14-year-old TikToker who has been consistently managing their skin since the age of 12 shared their personal anti-aging secret by carefully applying sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) of 50. They also showed themselves taking apple cider vinegar pills, applying strong retinol cream, and even sticking paper on car windows to block sunlight when having to ride in a car for a long time.

Anti-aging methods are not limited to cosmetics alone. Some Generation Z TikTokers have shared videos of themselves receiving 'baby Botox' injections. Baby Botox refers to a method of injecting a small amount of Botox into the dermis layer beneath the epidermis, rather than targeting specific muscles. The desired effect of baby Botox is to achieve natural facial expressions and movements. Additionally, baby Botox is preferred not only by those who want to naturally smooth wrinkles but also by people aiming to prevent early signs of aging.

However, many skincare experts express concerns about Generation Z’s anti-aging practices. In reality, it is common for teenagers in their late teens or early twenties not to have wrinkles severe enough to require Botox treatments. Experts warn against using Botox for preventive purposes at this age and advise focusing on basic skincare and sun protection instead. Dermatologist Dr. Moon Deep Sha stated, "The use of retinol cream for anti-aging should start no earlier than the late twenties," adding, "It is best to avoid Botox injections from the mid-twenties to mid-thirties."
