Seongnam City to Impound License Plates of Vehicle Owners with Over 300,000 Won in Unpaid Taxes
Seongnam City in Gyeonggi Province has sent license plate seizure notices to 266 vehicle owners who have overdue fines for illegal parking and stopping.
On the 22nd, Seongnam City announced that to promote a culture of sincere tax payment, it sent advance seizure notices to vehicle owners who have overdue fines of 300,000 won or more for illegal parking and stopping, unpaid for over 60 days without valid reasons. The total amount overdue by these individuals is 111 million won across 1,970 cases.
As announced, if the overdue fines are not paid by the 31st of this month, from January 1st next year, the responsible officials will remove the vehicle license plates on-site.
Once the license plate is seized, the vehicle cannot be operated. Vehicle owners can retrieve their license plates by visiting the Seongnam City Hall Tax Management Division after fully paying the overdue amount.
A Seongnam City official stated, "We will do our best to realize tax justice through continuous license plate seizures for habitual high-amount defaulters and to establish a culture of sincere payment among defaulters."
