‘AI Southeast Wind’ Blows... UNIST Explores Industrial Transformation in Southeast Region at ‘AI Innovation Day’
On the 19th, Over 200 Participants from Industry, Academia, and Research Introduce AI Innovation Park Achievements
Let's Transform the Industrial Structure of the Southeast Region with Artificial Intelligence!
UNIST (President Yong-Hoon Lee) held an event to share the achievements of its efforts to drive innovation in the industries of the Southeast region through AI.
On the 19th, UNIST hosted the ‘AI Innovation Day’ event at Campus Building 108. This event was organized to introduce the business outcomes of the AI Innovation Park, which UNIST launched and has been operating since 2021, and to strengthen collaboration.
More than 200 people attended the event, including representatives from companies in the Southeast region, researchers, university professors, students, and officials from Ulsan City.
In his congratulatory speech, Chae-Kwon Lee, Head of Ulsan City’s Future Strategy Headquarters, said, “We appreciate that the AI Innovation Park has discovered many projects and achieved good results,” and added, “We hope it will serve as a stepping stone for local companies to enhance their competitiveness through digital transformation.”
The event showcased achievements in solving practical problems faced by companies using AI in fields such as manufacturing and biomedical industries. These outcomes were produced through the PBL (Project Based Learning) practical courses of the AI Novatus Academia.
The AI Novatus Academia, a training program for employees, has produced 281 graduates from 155 companies in the Ulsan and Gyeongnam regions over the past three years. Additionally, 83 industrial field application databases have been accumulated through the PBL practical courses of the Academia.
Research results in the AI field, conducted in collaboration with local industries, were also disclosed. UNIST’s AI-specialized professors are carrying out 20 research projects in areas such as quality innovation, process optimization, energy saving, occupational safety, disease prediction, and new material development, thereby strengthening the AI innovation capabilities of local companies.
Seven AI Innovation Park resident companies, including CoreDotToday, ABH, and Simdo Company, presented their business models and technological capabilities at the event and expanded opportunities for collaboration. Currently, 12 AI-specialized startups reside in the AI Innovation Park, receiving support for joint research and development.
In his welcoming remarks, Jaeyong Lee, Vice President of UNIST, said, “I hope the AI Innovation Day event will develop into a forum where the industrial and academic sectors of Ulsan and the Southeast region can share knowledge and experience to lead industrial innovation.”
