KCSC: "Information on Drug Sales, Brokerage, and Distribution Tripled"
The Korea Communications Standards Commission announced on the 19th that, as a result of conducting focused monitoring on information related to the sale or brokerage of narcotics from January to November this year, it resolved to request corrections for a total of 6,240 cases, approximately three times more than last year's 2,225 cases in 2022.
The total number of correction requests for narcotics sale and brokerage information decided by November reached 28,811 cases, which is about 11% higher than the total correction requests for the entire last year. The Commission expects this to increase by approximately 17% by the end of this year. Since 2019, the distribution volume of this type of information has continued a steep upward trend, averaging about 45% growth over five years.
The Commission stated, "Not only the recently occurred 'celebrity drug administration incident' but also incidents such as the 'Gangnam academy district drug beverage case' targeting young teenagers have created an environment where anyone can easily access narcotics, putting the daily lives of the public at immediate risk of collapse," and added, "We plan to strengthen monitoring of narcotics sale and brokerage information in the future to promptly block its distribution."
