Gwangju City Prepares Thoroughly for Heavy Snow... 24-Hour Disaster Countermeasures Headquarters in Operation
Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kang Ki-jung) plans to take thorough measures to prepare for heavy snowfall forecasted to begin on the 20th.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration's forecast, snow will start to fall in the Gwangju area from the 20th, with temperatures remaining below freezing throughout the day on the 21st and 22nd. Snow accumulation of 5 to 15 cm (up to 20 cm in some areas) is expected.
Once a preliminary advisory is issued, the city will pre-apply de-icing agents to vulnerable areas, and when the snowfall begins in earnest, the Gwangju City General Construction Headquarters, five autonomous districts, and the 2nd Ring Road will carry out snow removal operations.
Additionally, with the issuance of a heavy snow advisory, the Regional Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters will be activated to manage the situation around the clock without any gaps.
Earlier, when a heavy snow warning was forecasted on the 16th and 17th, Gwangju City prevented safety accidents by pre-applying de-icing agents and conducting snow removal operations.
Since some sections still have unmelted snow, Gwangju City will maintain vigilance and mobilize administrative power for a full-scale response.
Under the snow removal work principle of "major roads by City Hall, smaller roads by district offices, and alleys by citizens," the city plans to encourage citizen participation.
