Gyeonggi-do Conducts Full Survey of 339,000 Depositors in Arrears... 141.2 Billion KRW Seized
Gyeonggi Province has collected more than 2.1 billion KRW in taxes this year through seizure and collection from delinquent taxpayers.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 19th that it conducted a full investigation of court deposit records for 339,172 delinquent taxpayers who owed more than 300,000 KRW in local taxes over a 10-month period starting from February this year. Among them, 3,423 individuals held court deposits worth approximately 141.2 billion KRW, and through seizure and collection of these deposits, 2.12 billion KRW in delinquent taxes was collected.
Court deposits refer to money or securities entrusted to the court by parties involved in lawsuits, such as creditor-debtor disputes or real estate auction executions, for purposes including debt repayment, collateral, or safekeeping.
By municipality, Hwaseong City achieved the best results among the 31 cities and counties in the province by seizing court deposits worth about 48.9 billion KRW and collecting a total of 730 million KRW, including 200 million KRW in provincial taxes and 530 million KRW in city taxes.
Gyeonggi Province plans to take measures to cancel collateral in accordance with relevant laws for court deposits that are currently impossible to forcibly collect due to lawsuits between delinquent taxpayers and third parties. Additionally, it will actively pursue collection activities for collectible claims through continuous management of seized court deposits.
