‘Bluefin Tuna Specialty Store’ Emart Offers Discounts on Belly Meat and Special Cuts
Year-End Home Party Season Targeted Discount Sale
Emart announced on the 18th that it will introduce bluefin tuna and special bluefin tuna cuts for the year-end home party season.
From the 22nd, Emart will begin selling the "Bluefin Tuna Special Cuts Platter (around 230g, 29,800 KRW)" for one week at its seafood stores. The platter includes bluefin tuna belly, lean meat, and one of the special cuts such as cheek meat, collar meat, navel meat, or spinal meat.
Bluefin tuna is a premium sashimi fish species that accounts for only 1.1% of tuna catches worldwide. The cheek meat, collar meat, navel meat, and spinal meat of bluefin tuna are rare parts that usually make up only 3-8% of the whole bluefin tuna, making them difficult to find even at specialized tuna sashimi restaurants. Although Emart has previously conducted test sales of special cuts at some stores, this is the first time it is holding a large-scale nationwide event.
Emart is offering premium bluefin tuna and special cuts because as raw fish enjoyed conveniently at home becomes more popular, it aims to expand its product range to premium levels with the best taste, thereby broadening customers' choices.
Emart is also introducing tuna-specialized stores called "Tuna Butcher Shops" at major locations. Starting with the renewed Emart Yeonsu store at the end of March, seven stores including Yongsan, Eunpyeong, and Wangsimni sell a variety of tuna-related products ranging from premium bluefin tuna to handmade sushi, futomaki, tuna yukhoe, and bluefin tuna fillets. At the Yeonsu store, total sashimi sales increased by 46.8% and tuna sashimi sales rose by 116.6% from April to November this year compared to the same period last year.
