Explosion at Fuel Depot in Capital of Guinea, Africa... 'At Least 8 Dead'
In the early hours of the 18th (local time), a fire caused by an explosion occurred at a fuel depot in the capital of West African Guinea, resulting in at least 8 deaths and 84 injuries, according to local police.
According to major foreign news outlets, an explosion occurred at an oil storage warehouse in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, early that morning, breaking the windows of several buildings in the Kaloum district of the city and causing hundreds of local residents to evacuate.
Black smoke and flames rose above the oil storage warehouse where the accident occurred, and tanker trucks evacuated the scene under the escort of soldiers and police officers.
Witnesses reported that even after firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire, thick smoke and smoldering embers were still visible.
Guinea relies entirely on imported oil and stores most of its imported refined oil in oil depots in Conakry.
