Emart "Discover Sweetness Maximized Tangerines and Kiwis for Sale"
Emart announced on the 17th that it will introduce premium tangerines and kiwis with increased sweetness this winter.
Emart operates three main types of premium tangerines: high-sugar tangerines, award-winning tangerines from tasting contests, and Bulrocho tangerines. The award-winning tangerines are unique tangerines grown using Makgeolli as fertilizer. By combining the ‘Taibaek cultivation’ method, which blocks moisture absorption and reflects sunlight to increase sweetness, with a Makgeolli farming technique developed in-house, the sugar content was raised to 11-12 Brix or higher. These limited-edition tangerines are sold for about seven weeks from mid-November to the end of December.
Bulrocho tangerines have the highest sugar content standard among tangerines at 12.5 Brix. Emart has sold Bulrocho tangerines every January, but this year, reflecting the trend of popular high-sugar fruits, the sales start date was moved up by three weeks. Sales began at some stores from the 8th and will expand to all stores by January.
For kiwis, in addition to last year’s Jeju-grown green kiwi, gold kiwi, and red kiwi, this year Emart introduces improved high-sugar Jeju kiwis such as Ruby Gold kiwi, Heart Gold kiwi, and Emerald kiwi.
Ruby Gold kiwi is a variety developed by crossbreeding red kiwi and gold kiwi to increase sweetness. The center of the fruit shows a red ruby color, and with a sugar content of 18 Brix or higher, it boasts the sweetest taste among Emart kiwis. Heart Gold kiwi is also a new gold kiwi variety with a sugar content of 18 Brix or higher, characterized by its heart-shaped appearance and larger fruit size compared to other varieties.
Emerald kiwi is a new variety discovered by chance during the pollination process of regular green kiwi and was successfully popularized after about three years of cultivation. It has a sugar content of 14 Brix or higher, which is 2 Brix higher than regular green kiwi, and is a rare new variety produced in about 25 tons this year by only four farms. Emart is the only offline retailer selling this new kiwi variety this year. The three new kiwi varieties will first be sold at about 50 Emart stores starting on the 18th and will be available at all stores by January.
