'1st Anniversary of Inauguration' Kim Seok-gu, President of Pyeongtaek Port Authority, "I Will Make Pyeongtaek Port a Place of Innovation and Opportunity"
Kim Seok-gu, President of Gyeonggi Pyeongtaek Port Authority, celebrated his first anniversary in office by conducting environmental cleanup activities and emphasized that he will do his best to create an "Innovative and Opportunity-filled Pyeongtaek Port" during the remaining two years of his term.
On the 15th, President Kim announced that to commemorate his first anniversary, he carried out environmental cleanup activities around a 1km section of Pyeongtaek Port, collecting trash together with the authority’s employees and the Korean Red Cross Poseung Volunteer Group.
As achievements during his first year in office, President Kim cited ▲diversification of shipping routes through customer-centered port marketing ▲establishment of an ESG management system through fostering a carbon-neutral port ▲and focusing on the advancement and systematization of the organization.
In fact, the Pyeongtaek Port Authority has been progressing with the construction of port infrastructure to respond to future changes by completing Zone 1 of the Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port Phase 2-1 Type 1 Port Hinterland Complex Project aimed at attracting actual users such as manufacturing and logistics companies, starting construction of Zone 2, and applying for approval of the implementation plan for the previously sluggish Pyeongtaek-Dangjin Port Phase 2-3 Type 1 Port Hinterland Complex Development Project.
Additionally, through customer-centered port marketing, the authority newly opened Southeast Asia routes for the first time in three years since 2019 and sought route diversification by launching the first-ever China Taichang and Nantong routes from Pyeongtaek Port.
Furthermore, in securing sustainable growth engines, the authority promoted marine leisure by establishing the operation of Jebu Marina to provide "more opportunities" for marine leisure as part of everyday life and building a marine leisure tourism base. It also strengthened its position as a specialized marine safety institution through the active operation of the Gyeonggi Marine Safety Experience Center, which opened in July 2022.
Moreover, the authority fulfilled its social responsibilities as a public institution by establishing an ESG management system through realizing the ‘Gyeonggi RE100’ climate crisis policy in the 8th local government term, acquiring the ISO 45001 safety and health management system certification, and creating a hydrogen complex base at Pyeongtaek Port.
President Kim stated, "Over the past year, I have made every effort to normalize management, including accelerating the progress of projects that had been stagnant due to the long absence of the institution’s head," and emphasized, "For the next two years, I will focus my remaining term on an authority transformed through innovation and an opportunity-filled Pyeongtaek Port."
