Jongno-gu Sells Food Waste Payment Certificates at Volume-Based Waste Bag Sales Locations
Payment Certificates for Food Waste from Small Restaurants Available for Purchase at Designated Volume-Based Waste Bag Stores Starting January 2024... Expected Increase in Small Business Income, Improved Convenience for Small Restaurants, and Enhanced Efficiency for Agency Operators
Jongno-gu (District Mayor Jeong Munheon) will change the seller of food waste disposal certificates required for food waste disposal at small restaurants from the existing delegated household waste contractors to designated volume-based waste bag sellers starting January 1, 2024.
This is expected to bring multiple benefits, including ▲improved convenience for small restaurants ▲increased income for designated volume-based waste bag sellers (small business owners) ▲and enhanced work efficiency for the delegated contractors.
Small restaurants refer to general restaurants with a store area of less than 200㎡, with approximately 3,100 such establishments in Jongno.
The payment certificate system, introduced in 2016, had the delegated contractors handle certificate sales and delivery, as well as waste collection and transportation, which placed a heavy workload on the contractors. Small restaurants could only order certificates during the contractors’ working hours and had to coordinate delivery schedules in advance, causing inconvenience.
With the change in the seller next year, small restaurants will be able to purchase payment certificates anytime and anywhere at nearby designated volume-based waste bag sellers (such as convenience stores), and the contractors will be able to focus on their primary tasks of waste collection and transportation.
The 327 designated volume-based waste bag sellers in the area will be able to handle not only volume-based waste bags but also payment certificates, enabling them to earn an annual sales profit of 154 million KRW.
Jongno-gu introduced Seoul’s first “location-based volume-based waste bag seller information service” on September 10, 2023, receiving positive feedback from residents. It is convenient to check information such as the locations of nearby volume-based waste bag sellers through the district office website or the Kakao Channel “Jongno-gu Volume-based Waste Bag.”
