Goheung-gun Launches Efforts to Identify and Support Welfare Blind Spots in Winter

Customized Support Including Emergency Welfare Assistance for Households in Crisis

Gohung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Young-min) announced on the 13th that it has established the "Winter Welfare Crisis Household Discovery and Support Measures" to support vulnerable crisis households, especially during the winter season, and will operate an intensive discovery period from December to February next year to provide customized livelihood stabilization such as emergency welfare support.

The county plans to utilize crisis information notified through the Happy e-um Welfare Blind Spot Discovery System to prioritize households with overdue electricity, gas, and water bills, households rejected from emergency welfare and basic livelihood security applications, and households of facility dischargees. If support is deemed necessary, welfare services will be linked accordingly.

In particular, the plan is to intensively link emergency welfare support projects that quickly provide emergency living expenses and medical expenses to low-income groups who are struggling to maintain their livelihood or burdened with medical costs due to sudden crisis reasons such as unemployment, illness, or natural disasters, helping them escape from crisis situations.

Along with this, cooperation with the private sector will also be strengthened. The Jeollanam-do Community Chest of Korea will carry out the 2024 Hope Sharing Campaign to assist vulnerable groups who do not receive public support, and food donations will be collected through the Gohung-gun Food Bank and Sunshine Sharing Food Market to be delivered to neighbors in need.

A county official stated, "To realize the 'Strong Welfare' of the 8th elected term, we are doing our best to discover crisis households together with the Hope-it-GO Discovery Team, composed of honorary social welfare officers and our neighborhood welfare task force," and added, "We ask for careful attention so that low-income crisis households, who feel the winter even colder, can spend the winter warmly."

Meanwhile, the county revealed that it has discovered 239 citizens in crisis situations so far this year and supported them with 280 million won through emergency welfare. During the last summer intensive discovery period (June 20 to August 31, 2023), it linked public and private resources worth approximately 52 million won through 874 cases to 1,002 people.
