Yongin-Icheon Join Hands to Foster Semiconductor Industry
Cooperation to Expand Connected Transportation Networks and Train Workforce
Yongin City and Icheon City in Gyeonggi Province have joined hands to develop the semiconductor industry, a core industry of both cities.

On the 13th, Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, and Kim Kyung-hee, Mayor of Icheon, signed a "Mutual Cooperation Agreement for the Promotion and Development of the Semiconductor Industry" at the Icheon City Hall.
Through this agreement, both organizations agreed to actively cooperate to cultivate semiconductor professionals and expand the transportation network connecting the two cities.
The two cities will especially allow joint use of related facilities and infrastructure for semiconductor talent development, foster semiconductor-related educational institutions, and develop and exchange related practical programs.
Additionally, they will jointly strive to have the 23.9 km section of Local Road No. 84 from Wonsam, Cheoin-gu, Yongin, where SK Hynix is building the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, to Daewol-myeon, Icheon, connecting the SK Hynix Icheon Campus and the Yongin cluster, included in the 6th Local Road Construction Plan.
Both organizations plan to specify cooperation measures through frequent consultations going forward.
Mayor Lee Sang-il said, "Through this agreement, the two neighboring cities that jointly host SK Hynix, a global semiconductor company, will activate a more vigorous cooperative system," adding, "We will strive to enable Yongin and Icheon to lead the development of South Korea's semiconductor industry."
The mayor also added, "In Yongin, along with two anchor companies, Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, many semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment companies will be active, so we plan to strengthen cooperation with neighboring cities such as Icheon to expand the semiconductor ecosystem and enhance competitiveness."
Currently, in Yongin, besides the Wonsam 'Yongin Semiconductor Cluster,' the Idong and Namsa areas' 'System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex' and 'Samsung Electronics Giheung Campus' have been designated as national advanced industry specialized complexes.

Mayor Kim Kyung-hee also stated, "We will actively support South Korea's semiconductor industry to maintain its position as a global leader, and we will do our best together to establish Icheon and Yongin as attractive cities for semiconductor-related investment."
