Wando-gun Selected as 'Best' Institution in Carbon Neutral Tree Planting Evaluation
Efforts to Preserve and Manage Forests Together with Residents, Including Signing the 'Sup Dolbomi' Agreement
Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Shin Woo-cheol) was selected as the best institution in the ‘2023 Carbon Neutral Tree Planting’ evaluation hosted by Jeollanam-do.
According to the county on the 13th, the ‘Making Jeonnam a Forest’ project is a campaign where residents plant and care for trees themselves, continuously managing the forest through watering, fertilizing, and weeding in the existing green spaces.

View original imageIn particular, through consistent follow-up management, they maximized the social value of forest resources by signing a ‘Forest Caretaker’ agreement with 21 organizations including the local youth association, Saemaeul association, and prosperity association, involving over 500 people to preserve beautiful forests.
During the ‘78th Arbor Day event’ in March, trees were planted mainly in village vacant lots, schools, and riversides to actively practice the carbon neutrality movement.
Additionally, to reduce costs, trees collected at the tree bank were used to create resident-participation forests in each region, and the creation of a ‘Resident Participation Rest Area Forest’ utilizing the closed road site at Dokgoje in Sinji-myeon was highly evaluated, earning the honor of being selected as the best institution.
Park Eun-jae, Director of the Forest Recreation Division, said, “Thanks to the voluntary forest creation and management by residents, the forests in our region are green and lush,” adding, “We will continue to expand green spaces and actively participate in practicing carbon neutrality.”
