Dongjak-gu Creates Public Parking Lot After Demolishing 'Safety Hazard' Vacant Houses
Active Use of Abandoned Spaces... Effective in Preventing Safety Accidents and Improving Urban Aesthetics
Dongjak-gu (District Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 12th that it has demolished a long-neglected vacant house, which had been a source of trouble, and will create a parking lot in its place.
The house, located in the middle of a residential area in Sadang-dong, had been left unattended for years, raising many safety concerns from residents.
The abandoned vacant house not only damages the surrounding aesthetics but can also be exploited for various crimes, posing a threat to the residential safety of nearby residents.
Accordingly, since the announcement of the vacant house maintenance plan in April, the district has continuously implemented administrative guidance to encourage voluntary demolition of targeted vacant houses. As a result, the demolition of the vacant house in Sadang-dong was completed on the 12th.
After the demolition, an agreement will be signed with the owner to utilize the site as a resident-priority parking lot for nearby residents. The parking lot will be completed by April next year after facility improvements.
Residents who frequently passed by the vacant house expressed relief and hope that the neighborhood will become brighter following the demolition news.
