Gurye-gun Wildfire Prevention, Drones Play a Key Role
Operation of Drones Equipped with Thermal Imaging Cameras and Broadcasting Systems
Gurye-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it is making every effort to prevent forest fires by organizing a ‘Forest Fire Prevention Drone Surveillance Team’ to monitor fire-prone areas.
The ‘Forest Fire Prevention Drone Surveillance Team’ consists of two groups of three members each and operates drones equipped with the latest thermal imaging cameras and broadcasting systems.
The surveillance team focuses on cracking down on illegal activities such as burning agricultural by-products and unauthorized entry into restricted forest areas, along with conducting forest fire prevention awareness campaigns targeting villages adjacent to forests.
In particular, from November 27 to December 8, the drone surveillance team utilized location information of agricultural by-products collected by drones to work with the township forest fire specialized prevention and suppression squads to collect and shred agricultural by-products, thereby removing potential fire hazards in advance.
An official from the county stated, “While extinguishing fires is important, prevention is the answer,” and added, “We will do our best to protect the valuable property and lives of our residents from forest fires.”
