Hapcheon-gun Selected as an Excellent Institution in the 2023 Forest Resources Sector

Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 11th that it was selected as an excellent and commendable institution respectively in the ‘Gyeongsangnam-do 2023 Forest Resources Sector (Afforestation and Forest Management)’ evaluation.
Gyeongsangnam-do conducted evaluations by inspecting afforestation and forest management projects in 18 cities and counties to discover best practices and improve project quality.
In this evaluation, Hapcheon-gun received high marks in the afforestation category for the Hwangmaesan tree planting event involving nationwide participation, selecting tree species suitable for local conditions, and the growth status of planted trees. In the forest management category, it was praised for the appropriateness of removing competing trees and vines.
To successfully promote the policy forest management project, the county has been cooperating with the Hapcheon-gun Forestry Cooperative on a public-private partnership forest management pilot project, mutually collaborating on site selection and field inspections to improve project quality.
As a result, this year, Hapcheon-gun implemented afforestation projects on 106.5 hectares, large tree management on 45 hectares, young tree management on 85 hectares, weeding of afforestation sites on 500 hectares, vine removal on 400 hectares, forest fire prevention forest management on 250 hectares, and fine dust reduction forest management on 300 hectares.

Jeong Dae-geun, head of the Forestry Division, said, “Since 72.5% of Hapcheon-gun’s total area is forest land, afforestation and forest management are important projects to nurture forests as valuable resources. Through continuous and active forestry projects, we will further expand the public functions of forests and increase forest owners’ income by fostering economic forests.”
