Lee pointed out, "Even Saudi Arabia, which was a competitor in the Expo and the largest oil-producing country, announced that it will expand the share of renewable energy to 50% by 2030," adding, "As of 2021, South Korea's renewable energy generation accounts for only 7%. It ranks 19th, the lowest among G20 countries." He continued, "Considering the global average share is 28%, this is an absurd situation at only a quarter of that. Yet, the government lowered the renewable energy target from the original 30% to 21.6% in January this year. This is truly frustrating," he criticized.
