"You're Not Even a Teacher" Parent Throws Tantrum and Uses Abusive Language in Elementary School Classroom
Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education Reports Parent for Trespassing
Causing Disturbance at School After Hearing Child's Dispute
Teacher Who Tried to Stop Them Told, "You Should Have Educated Better"
The education authorities have reported to the police a parent who barged into an elementary school classroom, verbally abused the teacher by saying "You are not even a teacher," and caused a disturbance, on charges of trespassing.
On the 11th, the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education's Teacher Rights Protection Committee announced that it had reported parent A, who entered a third-grade classroom at an elementary school in Siheung-si, Gyeonggi Province, to the police on the 7th on charges of trespassing. It was reported that A visited the school and caused a disturbance after learning that their child had a dispute with another student.
On the morning of the 27th of last month, around 9:30 a.m., A entered the third-grade classroom during class and threatened a male student by shouting at him.
Additionally, to the homeroom teacher who tried to stop this, A verbally abused her with phrases such as "You are not even a teacher," "If you had done well, this wouldn't have happened," and "You should have properly educated [the students]."
Afterwards, the homeroom teacher reported the violation of teacher rights to the education authorities, and the Teacher Rights Protection Committee has been discussing measures to respond to A's actions. The education authorities explained, "After consulting with lawyers, we determined that the parent's actions can be considered trespassing."
They are also pursuing a defamation complaint against A. Since defamation is a crime that requires a victim's complaint rather than a public accusation, a lawyer in charge of teacher rights protection at the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education plans to support the teacher who was verbally abused in filing a complaint against A.
"Who reported our child?" Parent who strangled teacher's neck
Earlier, news was reported that a parent in their 30s, B, who entered an elementary school classroom in Incheon during class, strangled a teacher's neck and used abusive language, was brought to trial.
At the sentencing hearing held on October 24 at the Incheon District Court Criminal Division 9 (Judge Jeong Hee-young), the prosecution requested a two-year prison sentence for 30-year-old woman B on charges including assault. It was reported that in November 2021, B received notification that her son was to be referred to the School Violence Countermeasures Committee (Hakpokwi) as a perpetrator of school violence and visited the school with two men.
B verbally abused the teacher during class, saying, "You are not even qualified to be a teacher. I will report this to the police, the Office of Education, and the Minister of Education," and shouted at about ten students in the classroom, "Who reported our child?"
