The Mapo Art Fair has been held annually since 2018 to improve the creative environment for artists and to revitalize the exhibition and sales of artworks.
Prior to the event, Mapo-gu publicly recruited artists to participate in the Mapo Art Fair starting in September, and after a fair screening process, selected 114 passionate artworks by 43 promising artists.
The selected works include 82 paintings, 22 designs, 7 installations, and 3 convergence and fusion pieces. During the event, they will be exhibited with protective transparent acrylic at the 'Red Road Road Gallery,' an outdoor street museum. The exhibited artworks can be traded directly on-site, allowing buyers to purchase desired works at reasonable prices and sellers to receive all sales proceeds without intermediary fees.
In addition to the direct art market, the Mapo Art Fair will offer various art experience programs such as caricature, calligraphy, and urban drawing, which everyone from children to seniors can enjoy.
A district official stated, "Through the 6th Mapo Art Fair, we aim to overcome the downturn in the art world and provide exhibition opportunities for artists," adding, "We have carefully prepared to open a direct art market for artists and to make it easy for residents to access artworks."
Meanwhile, the 'Red Road Road Gallery' installed at Hongdae Red Road has a total structure size of 5.1m by 11m, with 20 display panels each measuring 0.85m by 1.58m. Even after the Mapo Art Fair concludes, it will be operated regularly, exhibiting various artworks.
