Ministry of Industry Holds Electric Industry Day... "Record $15 Billion Export"
On the 7th, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the '2023 Electric Industry Day' commemorative event at EL Tower in Seoul, attended by over 200 people including electric industry contributors and representatives of the electric industry. Electric Industry Day was first held in 2021 to encourage electric industry workers by discovering and awarding contributors to the electric industry, and this year marked the third anniversary. Notably, this year also saw electric industry exports reach a record high of 15 billion USD.
At the ceremony, 33 contributors were awarded industrial medals, presidential citations, prime minister citations, and minister of industry citations for their contributions to the development of the electric industry.
The Industrial Medal was awarded to Yoon Seong-hee, CEO of Seochang Electric & Telecommunications. CEO Yoon was recognized for his contributions to technology development such as the construction of small-scale independent power grids (microgrids) in renewable energy-linked industrial complexes, leading ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management, and expanding exports related to high-quality, low-cost electricity.
The Presidential Citation was awarded to Baek Su-hyun, Director of Korea Electric Power Corporation. Director Baek was acknowledged for his contributions to customized support for improving the quality and efficiency of the power equipment supply chain, expanding overseas markets through the operation of the Energy Technology Market, and supporting the development of new markets. The Prime Minister Citation was awarded to Noh Hyung-seop, Executive Director of Iljin Electric, and Kang Tae-gil, Head of Korea South-East Power.

On this day, Lee Yong-pil, Director of the Advanced Industry Policy Division, urged the industry to actively expand investments and technology development related to distributed power sources and intelligent power grids to respond to the challenges facing the electric industry, such as decarbonization, decentralization, and digitalization.
