Reissuance of Arrest Warrant for Lawyer Who Aided Main Suspect's Escape in 'Yeongpung Paper Stock Manipulation' Case
The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office's Joint Investigation Team for Financial and Securities Crimes (Chief Prosecutor Ha Dong-woo) announced on the 6th that it has re-requested an arrest warrant for lawyer A, who is suspected of aiding Lee, the mastermind of the Yeongpung Paper stock manipulation organization, in evading arrest.
The prosecution had previously requested an arrest warrant for lawyer A, but the court dismissed it on the 30th of last month, stating that "there is room to dispute the criminal charges and there is no concern of flight or evidence destruction."
Lee and his accomplices in the stock manipulation are accused of manipulating the price of Yeongpung Paper stocks a total of 38,875 times (equivalent to 35.97 million shares) since early this year, gaining an unfair profit worth approximately 278.9 billion won.
The prosecution has so far indicted eight participants involved in the stock manipulation and is conducting investigations into accomplices who aided in harboring the suspects.
