Police Conduct Second Search of SR Over High-Speed Train Bid-Rigging Allegations
The police have conducted a second raid on SR, the operator of SRT, in connection with allegations of bid-rigging.
The Financial Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency sent investigators on the 5th to conduct a search and seizure at SR's headquarters located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, as well as at the residences and offices of suspects. This is the second police raid related to this case; on August 29, the police had previously searched SR and Hyundai Rotem's office in Uiwang-si, Gyeonggi Province.
The police are investigating whether any illegal activities occurred during the bidding process for a 1 trillion won contract combining 112 new high-speed train cars and vehicle maintenance services for SR in April. At that time, SR selected Hyundai Rotem as the final successful bidder, while the Woojin Industrial consortium, which also participated in the bid, was rejected. During this process, allegations arose that the list of evaluation committee members was leaked externally.
