Gwangju Buk-gu Operates Human Rights Week to Commemorate World Human Rights Declaration Day
On the 5th, Buk-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced that it will operate 'Human Rights Week' starting from the 8th in celebration of the 'World Human Rights Day.'
World Human Rights Day is on December 10th, the day when the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which was adopted unanimously by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 1948, was established to urge humanity to reflect on widespread human rights violations around the world following World War II and to set standards for individuals' basic freedoms and rights.
In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of this day, Buk-gu has designated the period from the 8th to the 23rd as Human Rights Week and is preparing events such as a 'Human Rights Talk Concert' and a 'Human Rights Art Exhibition' to reflect on the noble spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to foster a community consensus on human rights.
First, the Human Rights Talk Concert will be held three times on the 8th at Ochi General Social Welfare Center, the 9th at Solomon Park, and the 23rd at Buk-gu Youth Training Center, targeting children and adolescents. The topics will include 'Discrimination and Hate Expressions in Dramas,' 'Human Rights-related Games,' and 'Labor Rights Films,' aiming to raise residents' sensitivity to human rights.
Additionally, on the 8th and 9th, a Human Rights Art Exhibition introducing works from groups participating in the lifelong learning program for the disabled and human rights books recommended by the National Human Rights Commission will be held at the auditorium of Ochi General Social Welfare Center and Justice Hall in Solomon Park, alongside the talk concerts.
Furthermore, during Human Rights Week, Buk-gu plans to distribute a human rights guidebook to residents, which includes major cases of human rights violations and Buk-gu’s human rights-friendly policies, to spread an atmosphere of respect for human rights in society.
