Seodaemun District Office, Police Station, Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit, and University Students Conduct Joint Night Patrols in Sinchon-dong Women’s Safety Village Area
Seodaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Seong-heon) announced that on the night of the 1st, a joint night patrol involving civilians, government, and police was conducted around the Sinchon-dong Women’s Safety Village area.
To protect the safety of not only women but all residents, Lee Seong-heon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, Woo Ji-wan, Chief of Seodaemun Police Station, the Sinchon-dong Volunteer Crime Prevention Unit, and Yonsei University’s autonomous patrol team ‘Eagle Guard’ participated together.
According to last year’s Seoul city statistics, the female population ratio in Seodaemun-gu was 53.4%, the second highest among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul. Additionally, the proportion of single-person households in Sinchon-dong was 72%, the highest among the 14 administrative neighborhoods in the area.
This patrol was conducted in the ‘Seodaemun Women’s Safety Village’ area from Sinchon-ro 1-gil to Seongsan-ro 22-gil.
The patrol participants inspected risk factors in crime-prone areas and checked the operation of safety facilities such as CCTV, security lights, and road markers (reflectors). They also shared local security conditions and discussed cooperative crime prevention measures.
The district has designated the student and female single-person household dense residential area near Yonsei University in Sinchon-dong as the ‘Seodaemun Women’s Safety Village’ and is making every effort to create a safe residential environment by installing safety facilities, supporting safety equipment, and promoting the ‘Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)’ project in cooperation with Seodaemun Police Station.
