[12·4 Cabinet Reshuffle] Kang Do-hyeong Nominated as Minister of Oceans and Fisheries... "Expert in Marine Resources Field"
President Yoon Suk-yeol appointed Kang Do-hyung, director of the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology Promotion, as the new Minister of Oceans and Fisheries on the 4th.
Minister nominee Kang, born in 1970, is the youngest among the current minister candidates. He hails from Shinyang-ri, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo City, graduated from the Department of Oceanography at Inha University in 1997, and earned his master's and doctoral degrees in marine biology from the Graduate School of Jeju National University.
Starting as a researcher in 2006 at the Korea Ocean Research and Development Institute, the predecessor of the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology Promotion, he served as head of the Jeju Special Research Office, director of the Jeju Special Research Center, director of the Jeju Research Institute, and senior researcher. Since early this year, he has been serving as the director of the Korea Institute of Marine Science and Technology Promotion.
Nominee Kang has conducted research on marine bio and microalgae, contributing to the development of marine science and technology through research achievements and technologies utilized by related companies. After being remarkably appointed as the institute’s director based on his research accomplishments in the marine resources field, he has also been praised for his organizational management.
Additionally, he has been active in marine and fisheries-related fields, serving as the Planning General Secretary and Planning General Chairman of the Korean Society of Marine Bio, a member of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries’ self-evaluation committee, and vice president of the Korean Society of Fisheries Science.
