Naver Premium Content Used by 6 Million People Monthly
Channel and Paid Subscribers Double Compared to Previous Year
Naver Premium Content announced on the 4th that it has secured 6 million monthly active users (MAU) in just 1 year and 10 months since transitioning to an open platform.
This year, both the number of channels and paid subscribers doubled compared to the previous year, and more than 130,000 new pieces of content were created. Creators' earnings also increased, with channels consistently generating sales of over 1 million KRW per month tripling compared to last year. There are also dozens of channels with sales exceeding 100 million KRW this year. The total number of transactions doubled from the previous year, and the transaction amount increased more than threefold.
The largest sectors are economy/business, finance, and books/authors/publishers. While economic content is popular for revenue generation on typical paid content platforms, Naver explained that on Premium Content, channels across various fields such as economy, hobbies/practical use, trends/lifestyle, education/learning, and culture/arts grow evenly. Channels related to education and learning, such as lectures, study materials, and pattern sales, are also increasing.
Premium Content provides new revenue streams for creators who previously relied heavily on advertising income and offers data analysis and artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create an environment where they can focus on creative activities. For example, Naver supports automatic subtitle generation when uploading video content and allows automatically generated text subtitles to be published as content. It supports the sale of various types of access passes and flexible promotions, and provides creators with data related to content subscriptions and sales.
Naver plans to apply ‘Clova for Writing’ next year to help creators with topic selection, draft writing, and other creative activities. AI creator support tools that assist with content sales and channel marketing will also be provided.
