The police deployed about 20 personnel including a special forces team, along with 33 firefighters and 8 vehicles, to close off the Yonsei University Engineering Building and search the area.
After approximately two hours of searching the building and thoroughly inspecting the package, no explosives were found. The police explained, "There have been no reported damages so far."
Earlier that day, before the report was received, at around 10:09 PM, a post titled "Angry Because of a Professor" was made on the Yonsei University free board of the student community 'Everytime'.
The post included a photo of the Yonsei University Mechanical Engineering Department logo and stated that "a bomb was placed inside a tumbler and sent by package." The post has since been deleted, and the police are tracking down the author who posted it.
Meanwhile, in June 2017 at Yonsei University, a graduate student created an improvised explosive device by placing screws inside a tumbler and installed it in front of the advisor professor’s laboratory, injuring the professor. The professor sustained burns to the neck and arms from the incident.
It was determined that the graduate student committed the act out of resentment after being reprimanded during the thesis writing process.
During the police investigation, the student stated, "I did not intend to kill Professor Kim," and "I wanted to hurt him to scare him."

Ultimately, in the second trial held on April 25, 2018, the student was sentenced to two years in prison, the same as in the first trial. The Criminal Division 1 of the Seoul High Court (Presiding Judge Kim In-gyeom) ruled, "Given the increasing anxiety about terrorism, a prison sentence is inevitable."
