Gwangjin-gu Shares Homegrown Crops with Neighbors
From June to November, Every Tuesday 'Jaturi Garden Donation Day' Operated
Sharing Homegrown Produce with Neighbors in Need to Promote Donation Culture
Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is attracting attention by operating the 'Jatuli Garden Donation Day.'
Since April, the district has been managing a total of 5,800㎡ of Jatuli gardens in three locations: Gwangjang-dong, Achasan, and Jungnangcheon. Here, residents cultivate crops, enjoy the joy of harvest, and share part of the produce with neighbors in need.
This year, 268 individuals and 24 organizations participated in the Jatuli gardens. Group participants at the Jungnangcheon garden donate 50% of their harvest, while individual participants can donate voluntarily.
Donation Day has been held every Tuesday from 9:30 AM for two hours, from June to November.
When participants separate the peppers, perilla leaves, eggplants, cherry tomatoes, napa cabbages, and other crops they have grown by type, Gwangjin Food Bank collects them and delivers them to low-income households in the area.
This year, the donated crops totaled 958 kg. About 14 types of crops, including young radish greens, chicory, and napa cabbage from the Jatuli gardens, were delivered to neighbors in need.
