Hwang Unha Sentenced to 3 Years in Prison: "An Unacceptable Verdict"
Hwang Unha, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea who was indicted on suspicion of interfering in the Ulsan mayoral election, raised his voice saying he "cannot accept" the three-year prison sentence handed down in the first trial.
On the 29th, Hwang stated on his social media service (SNS), "The court accepted only the prosecution's one-sided claims and rejected the defendant's legitimate defense."

View original imageOn the same day, the Criminal Division 21-3 of the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Hwang, who was charged with violating the Public Official Election Act, to three years in prison but did not detain him in court, citing no risk of evidence destruction or flight.
Regarding this, Hwang said, "An unacceptable verdict has been delivered," and added, "After receiving the written judgment, I will carefully analyze which parts the court misjudged and will prove my innocence in the appeal trial."

Before the first trial verdict was announced that day, Hwang wrote on SNS, "I expect a not guilty verdict based on common sense and legal principles. No matter how much the prosecution tries to falsely accuse me, I believe the judiciary will awaken what justice is through a wise judgment," and said, "In any case, I will devote myself to winning the general election without the slightest wavering."
