Yeongyang-gun Holds Suicide Prevention and Life Respect Committee Meeting
Yeongyang-gun, Gyeongbuk Province (Governor Oh Do-chang) held a Suicide Prevention and Life Respect Committee meeting at the health center on the 28th to prevent suicide, which is recognized as a serious social issue, and to promote a culture of respecting life.
The 'Suicide Prevention and Life Respect Committee' is composed of 12 members, including the vice governor as the chairperson, the head of the health center, the director of the resident welfare department, county council members, police station officials, health institution personnel, and individuals with extensive experience related to suicide prevention and life respect, in accordance with the 'Yeongyang-gun Ordinance for Suicide Prevention and Life Respect.' The committee is responsible for deliberating and advising on policies related to suicide prevention and life respect.
At the meeting, the committee reviewed the progress of suicide prevention projects, discussed the 2024 suicide prevention strategies, and explored various measures to spread a life-respecting atmosphere. They also held in-depth discussions on building cooperative systems among various institutions.
They agreed that suicide is not an individual issue but a social structural problem requiring changes in perception and attitude. They recognized suicide as a social issue and decided to actively cooperate with various institutions within the jurisdiction.
