Nine Including Jeonnam National University Professor Booked for Government Subsidy Fraud
The number of suspects indicted in the subsidy embezzlement case related to the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Innovation Platform project has increased to nine.
The Anti-Corruption Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Gwangju Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 27th that they are investigating nine individuals, including Professor A from Jeonnam National University, without detention on charges of violating the Act on the Management of Subsidies.
Professor A, who served as the head of the Gwangju-Jeonnam Regional Innovation Platform project team (Jeonnam National University) organized by the Ministry of Education, is suspected of colluding with companies to embezzle 3.3 billion KRW in subsidies during the course of the project.
Project team members are reported to have colluded with participating companies to falsify project plans and inspection confirmation documents to embezzle subsidies.
Additionally, they received subsidies by fabricating already commercialized technologies as if they were newly developed.

The two problematic projects are the "Smart Farm" project for establishing an energy self-sufficient livestock circular future agriculture platform through green energy, and the "XR Technology Advancement" project for the demonstration of energy creative convergence extended reality (XR) education and hardware platform technology advancement.
