Efforts Recognized for Contributing to Various Elderly Welfare and Quality of Life Improvement

Kim Hee-su, the governor of Jindo County, was honored with the Grand Prize in the Basic Local Government Head category at the ‘3rd Korea Senior Citizens Association Senior Welfare Awards’ hosted by the Korea Senior Citizens Association.

According to Jindo County on the 27th, the Senior Welfare Award is given to metropolitan and basic local government heads nationwide who have contributed to senior welfare with the spirit of filial piety and dedication to the elderly.

So far, Jindo County has been committed to providing stable leisure activities and social participation for the elderly through improving the environment of senior centers and other senior welfare facilities, expanding senior job opportunities, supporting social activities, offering visiting physical therapy and exercise classes, and operating Korean language schools.

Additionally, the county was recognized for its contributions to enhancing senior welfare in various fields, such as appointing community volunteer instructors at village senior centers, improving the treatment of caregivers at nursing institutions, providing filial piety allowances to four types of households, and constructing and expanding senior welfare centers at the township level.

Governor Kim Hee-su stated, “I will take greater interest in creating a happy Jindo where all residents live well together,” and added, “We will continue to actively promote customized senior welfare service policies to ensure the healthy and comfortable later life of our elderly citizens.”
