Weverse Company Designated as an Independent Rating Classification Operator
5-Year Classification Based on Yeongdeungwi Standards
The Video Rating Board announced on the 27th that it has additionally designated Weverse Company as an independent rating classification operator. Accordingly, from the 1st of next month until November 30, 2028, Weverse Company will independently classify ratings based on the Video Rating Board's video content rating standards for five years. In return, they must comply with requirements such as appointing and training a rating classification officer (twice a year), displaying rating and content information, notifying detailed information about online videos, and undergo an annual evaluation of the appropriateness of their operations. Weverse is a platform that provides a community and content where artists and fans communicate.
Independent rating classification is a system that allows operators to classify online video ratings themselves, which was previously done by the Video Rating Board. Through three rounds of designation, ten platforms have been appointed as operators: Netflix, Wavve, Disney+, TVING, Coupang Play, Apple TV+, Watcha, U+tv, U+mobile TV, and Weverse. Experts from various fields including management and law, video and culture, media and information communication, and youth participated in the review. The focus was on evaluating the independent rating classification and post-management plans as well as the capabilities to protect youth and users.
