"Hwang Ui-jo, Strip National Team Qualification"... Civic Group Emerges
"Raised Issues and Evidence Alone Are Sufficient Grounds for Disciplinary Action"
A civic group has called for the revocation of the national team qualification of soccer national player Hwang Ui-jo, who is accused of illegal filming. The group argued, "Although the investigation results have not yet been released, disqualification is necessary just because related issues have been raised."
On the 24th, the Sports Citizens' Solidarity issued a statement asking, "Is a soccer player who has become a suspect in illegal filming during sexual intercourse qualified to represent South Korea in matches?" and insisted, "He should properly reflect on his actions and either voluntarily withdraw from participation or relinquish his national team qualification."
The group criticized Hwang Ui-jo for recently participating in the World Cup qualifying match and also pointed fingers at the Korea Football Association and J?rgen Klinsmann, the head coach of the South Korean national soccer team.
The organization stated, "Even if guilt or disciplinary action has not been confirmed, the fact that related issues have been raised based on some evidence means that the national team qualification should naturally be revoked," and added, "Measures such as suspension from participation should be taken until the controversy is resolved."
Previously, Hwang Ui-jo participated in the second round of the 2026 North and Central America World Cup Asian qualifiers against China held in Shenzhen, China, on the 21st. Regarding this, Coach Klinsmann said, "I am aware of the controversy in Korea," but added, "Until clear facts come out, it is just an ongoing matter. We cannot say there is an immediate problem or guilt."

Hwang Ui-jo was investigated by the police on the 18th on suspicion of illegally filming sexual intercourse with his ex-girlfriend. It was reported that he denied the allegations at the time. Hwang's side claimed it was a 'consensual video' and denied any leakage, but the victim's side insisted that they did not consent to the filming. During this process, Hwang's side was also criticized for secondary harm by partially revealing the identity of the woman in the video.
