Movie 'Seoul-ui Bom' Draws 200,000 Viewers on Opening Day
Box Office Starts at Number 1
The film "Seoul Spring," inspired by the December 12 military coup, opened at number one at the box office, attracting 200,000 viewers on its first day.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system on the 23rd, "Seoul Spring" (directed by Kim Seong-su), which was released the previous day, drew 203,839 viewers and took the top spot at the box office.
"Seoul Spring" is based on the December 12 military coup led by Chun Doo-hwan, Roh Tae-woo, and the Hana Group, a secret military faction within the armed forces. The film depicts the tense nine hours on December 12, 1979, in Seoul, when the new military forces attempted a coup.
The film was directed by Kim Seong-su, who also directed "Beat" (1997), "Flu" (2013), and "Asura" (2016).
Actor Hwang Jung-min plays Jeon Do-gwang, a key figure in the new military faction inspired by Chun Doo-hwan, while Jung Woo-sung portrays Lee Tae-shin, the Capital Security Commandant. The cast also includes Lee Sung-min, Park Hae-joon, and Kim Sung-kyun.

Film directors have actively come forward to support "Seoul Spring." Actor Lee Jung-jae, who previously collaborated on "No Sun" (1999), appeared as a director at Megatalk on the 17th, followed by director Kim Han-min on the 21st, and director Ryu Seung-wan on the 23rd.
