Samsung Electronics Tops Smartphone Shipments in 42 Countries... Beats Xiaomi in Huge Indian Market
Global Smartphone Market Rebounds After 28 Months
This year, Samsung Electronics is expected to rank first in shipments in 42 countries worldwide. Although this is four fewer countries than last year, when it ranked first in 46 countries, it is expected to take the top spot in India, the world's second-largest market by shipment volume.
Global market research firm Counterpoint Research announced this on the 23rd through its "Quarterly Smartphone Shipment Report."
Samsung Electronics ranked first in shipments in 46 countries last year, but this year it is expected to lose the top spot to competitors in six countries: the Philippines, Algeria, Ghana, Kuwait, Bulgaria, and Venezuela. However, it is anticipated to reclaim first place in India and Malaysia.
The Philippines has been a market where Samsung held the number one position for a long time. However, the C55 model released by Chinese manufacturer Realme in the first half of the year has gained significant popularity through online distribution channels, threatening Samsung's position. In Kuwait, Apple is expected to take the top spot, while in Algeria, Techno will likely claim first place. Counterpoint Research analyzed that Apple has shown remarkable growth in key Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) markets such as Kuwait in the first half of the year, driven by the popularity of the iPhone 14 Pro. Additionally, in Algeria, Chinese manufacturer Techno, known for its price competitiveness, is expanding its presence.
On the other hand, in India, Samsung is expected to surpass Xiaomi and take first place. Counterpoint Research evaluated that Samsung has successfully diversified its distribution channels for mid-to-low-end devices in India by focusing on the A series in offline channels and the F and M series in online channels. Furthermore, premium models such as the Galaxy S series and Z series have also received positive responses in India, leading to an increase in market share.
Meanwhile, the global smartphone market rebounded for the first time in 28 months since June 2021. In October, global monthly smartphone sales increased by 5% compared to the same period last year.
Counterpoint Research analyzed that although the recovery speed in developed markets was slow, emerging markets saw a rebound in sales due to recovery trends in the Middle East and Africa and seasonal sales increases in India. Additionally, the iPhone 15 series began sales one week later than its predecessor, starting on September 22, which also contributed to the increase in sales in October.
