On the same day, Mayor Yoon met with Seo Sam-seok, chairman of the Budget Committee, Song Eon-seok, secretary of the Budget Committee, and Budget Subcommittee members Lee Won-taek and Song Seok-jun, followed by meetings with lawmakers Shin Jeong-hoon and Lee Gae-ho.
Through these meetings, he explained the necessity of local projects related to future advanced industries, smart agriculture, and revitalization of the old downtown and innovation city, which will serve as growth engines for regional development, and requested full attention and support for their inclusion in next year’s national budget.
Mayor Yoon proposed the construction of the National Energy Specialized Science Museum, which will become a landmark for the city as a leading city in the new energy industry, and the establishment of the Energy New Industry Global Innovation Zone, aimed at globalizing the new energy industry through the future DC-based power grid, as key projects in future advanced industries.
He particularly emphasized that the Global Innovation Zone is an essential project to upgrade the existing free zone centered on Naju, which has established energy industry-academia-research infrastructure, and to establish global technology standards through the demonstration of the DC power grid platform.
Mayor Yoon also provided detailed explanations about the Public-Academic Cooperation Incubating Smart Farm, designed as an early spread of advanced smart agriculture and a solution to overcome the local extinction crisis by settling young and returning farmers, and the Naju Eupseong Area Korean-style Garden Path project, which utilizes historical and cultural resources such as Geumseonggwan, Moksanaea, and Naju Hyanggyo.
Additionally, he explained the current situation of the Korea Energy Engineering University, which is expected to face difficulties in normal school operations due to a decrease in government subsidies next year, and requested active support from the National Assembly for nurturing world-class talent.
Mayor Yoon Byung-tae said, “Future advanced industries, smart agriculture, and tourism are the growth engines for Naju toward becoming a global small but strong city of 200,000 people,” adding, “Along with close cooperation with Jeollanam-do and local political circles, I will do my utmost to secure national budget funding by frequently visiting the National Assembly and central government ministries.”
