President Han Gyuntae shared university news during meetings with alumni, making the Thousand-Won Breakfast a hot topic. Alumni participants include Lee Bonggwan (Department of Business Administration, Class of ’66, Chairman of Seohee Construction), Park Jongbok (Economics, Class of ’76, CEO of SC First Bank), Heo Sangjun (Law, Class of ’82, President of KD Transportation Group), Moon Juhyun (Accounting, Class of ’83, Chairman of MDM), and Cha Junghun (Chinese Language and Literature, Class of ’83, Chairman of Korea Land Trust).
The event is held on the days when students eat lunch the most at each campus. At the Seoul Campus, it takes place at the Cheongwoon Hall cafeteria from the 13th of this month until the 20th of next month. Until December 14th, a Thousand-Won Lunch is provided to 500 students on a first-come, first-served basis three days a week (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday). The meal, normally priced at 5,500 won, is offered with 4,500 won covered by alumni donations and the remaining 1,000 won paid by the students. During the final exam period from December 15th to 20th, a special meal priced at 6,500 won will be provided. The menu will consist of three different options.
At the International Campus, the event runs until the 21st of next month at the Student Union building and the 2nd Dormitory cafeteria. The Student Union offers the Thousand-Won Lunch to about 400 students every Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, while the 2nd Dormitory serves about 400 students every Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
Alumnus Lee Bonggwan, who participated in the donation, said, "This is a financially difficult time due to prolonged high prices and the pandemic. I believe the academic environment for juniors is also challenging. I heard that the president, faculty members, and staff have been practicing donations for the Thousand-Won Breakfast, and alumni also thought we should encourage our juniors by pooling our resources." He explained the meaning behind his donation.

President Han Gyuntae visited the Cheongwoon Hall student cafeteria on the 15th to explain the purpose of the event and encourage students. Student Shin Minhwan (Department of Business Administration, Class of ’19) said, "I often used the Thousand-Won Breakfast to reduce my meal expenses. It’s great to be able to have lunch at an affordable price through this event. The portions are large, and I can choose from three menu options, so I plan to keep using it." Student Park Wonbin (College of Korean Medicine, Class of ’20) shared, "The donations from seniors felt like support for juniors growing at the university. It seems they recognize that juniors are advancing under the name of Kyung Hee within Kyung Hee’s embrace. I hope to become a good Korean medicine doctor and help juniors as well."
