Busan City and Four Western Busan Districts Join Forces for Regional Development!
On the 23rd at 9:30 AM, Busan City will hold the inaugural meeting of the ‘Western Busan Development Council’ with four western Busan districts (Buk-gu, Saha-gu, Gangseo-gu, Sasang-gu) at the Buk-gu Office main building, 2nd floor conference room.
The ‘Western Busan Development Council,’ consisting of Busan City and the four western Busan districts (Buk-gu, Saha-gu, Gangseo-gu, Sasang-gu), will officially launch to promote balanced development between eastern and western Busan and to facilitate communication and cooperation on policies and issues concerning western Busan.
This initiative is the first concrete step following Mayor Park Hyung-jun’s directive during the ‘15-Minute City Advancement Report Meeting’ last October, where he stated, “Despite various city efforts, the gap between eastern and western Busan remains unresolved,” and emphasized, “To bridge the east-west gap, we must focus specifically on western Busan, with Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seong-gwon taking a leading role.”
The first meeting will be attended by Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seong-gwon and key officials, along with district heads (with the Deputy District Head representing Gangseo-gu), to discuss the council’s composition and operation plans, as well as issues and budgets related to western Busan.
The council is composed of Busan City and the four western Busan autonomous districts (Buk-gu, Saha-gu, Gangseo-gu, Sasang-gu). To ensure effective policy consultation and communication, quarterly meetings will be regularized to discuss western Busan issues and joint cooperation matters. By establishing a permanent cooperative system between the city and the western Busan districts, they plan to consolidate their implementation capabilities.

Deputy Mayor for Economic Affairs Lee Seong-gwon stated, “Through the Western Busan Development Council, we will accelerate proactive field administration for the development of western Busan.” He added, “Since many pressing projects are concentrated in western Busan, these issues cannot be resolved overnight, but we will carefully manage each project to address the east-west imbalance in Busan and strive to make Busan a great place to live everywhere.”
