Haenam-gun to Distribute Largest Nationwide Basic Public Benefit Payment of 57.5 Billion KRW
15,758 People, Area of 29,480 ha Targeted for Sequential Payment by the End of November
Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Myung Hyun-kwan) will sequentially pay the basic public interest direct payment of 57.497 billion KRW starting from the end of November.
According to the county on the 22nd, this year's public interest direct payment targets 15,758 farmers (including corporations) and an area of 29,480 hectares, making it the largest scale nationwide.
In particular, this year, the application area significantly increased by 1,516 hectares and 2.736 billion KRW due to the resolution of the limitation on farmland payments from 2017 to 2019.
The basic public interest direct payment system is a project implemented to promote the public functions of agriculture and rural areas, such as environmental conservation through agricultural activities, and to stabilize farmers' income.
It is divided into the small-scale farmer direct payment, which pays 1.2 million KRW to farmers with 0.5 hectares or less, and the area direct payment, which pays 1 to 2.05 million KRW per hectare depending on the area bracket.
This year, Haenam-gun will pay 5177 small-scale farmer direct payments totaling 6.1 billion KRW and 10,581 area direct payments totaling 51.337 billion KRW.
Haenam-gun received applications and registrations until the end of June and verified the target farmland, farmers, farmland conversion, and compliance with farmers' obligations to check actual cultivation and qualification requirements.

A county official said, "We hope that the payment of the basic direct payment will help stabilize farm management for farmers who are experiencing many difficulties due to climate change and rising agricultural material costs," and added, "We will continue to do our best to help increase farm income in the agricultural and rural fields."
