Seodaemun-gu Year-End Concert, Classical Performance at Ewha Womans University on the 8th of Next Month
Conductor Ham Shin-ik, 'Symphony Song' Orchestra and More
Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) will hold the 2023 year-end concert "Seodaemun Winter Story (WINTER STORY)" to deliver comfort and hope as the year ends. The concert will take place on December 8th at 7 PM for about 100 minutes at Ewha Womans University Grand Auditorium, which has a capacity of 2,800 seats.
The performance features conductor Ham Shin-ik and the "Symphony SONG" orchestra, as well as the Symphony SONG Combined Choir, Seodaemun-gu Women's Choir, soprano Oh Mi-seon, mezzo-soprano Kim Seon-jeong, tenor Hwang Hyun-han, baritone Kim Jeong-rae, and violinist Song Ji-won.
They will present a variety of classical and popular music to the audience, including Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker Suite," Sarasate's "Carmen Fantasy," the finale (Ode to Joy) from Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 "Choral," "Christmas Carol Medley," and "Only Longing Piles Up." Conductor Ham Shin-ik will help the audience understand the pieces by providing explanations during the performance.
Lee Seongheon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, said, "I expect this year-end concert to be a special time where weary hearts can be comforted and new hope can be built as we close out the year."
All seats are free, and reservations can be made for up to 4 tickets per person by accessing the QR code on the promotional poster or by calling the Seodaemun-gu Urban Management Corporation. The recommended viewing age is 7 and above, and anyone can apply regardless of whether they are a resident of Seodaemun-gu.
Conductor Ham Shin-ik has served as a full professor at Yale University School of Music and as the principal conductor of the KBS Symphony Orchestra. In 2014, he founded the "Symphony SONG (S.O.N.G)" orchestra, named after the first letters of "Symphony Orchestra for the Next Generation."
